John Mackinnon was born on the 8th of November 1975 in Glasgow Scotland
He grew up listening to his parent's favourite music, from Johnny Cash & Hendrix to Dylan and The Rolling Stones .
During his schooling a lot of people thought he worshiped Satan, this has since been proven untrue-ish.
He left school early and went to work with his Father felling and planting trees, then spent a few years in Cornwall working varied jobs ranging from glazier to barman
While in the South West of England he rode motorcycles, played hardcore and heavy thrash in a number of bands and ran over a badger, to be fair, the badger ran over him, as he came off far worse.
The accident badly injured his leg and he returned to Scotland while it healed and he plotted how to build the recording studio he had been planning for a few years...
One day he threw a pen at a map and it hit a sleepy town in the South East so he moved there to build a studio. Luckily, Chris Fox lived in the same sleepy town.
Chris Fox was born on the 15 th of March 1980 in the south of England, he managed to stay in various locations ranging from France to Singapore, as it happened however cruel fate deposited him back where he started, just in time for him to learn guitar, start playing in bands, and put his friend Jon Bennett off his school work.
Chris's early influences ranged from Nirvana and Weezer through to Ben Folds Five and the Beatles, he tried the education thing for a few years, but he realised that music was in his blood, and no amount of chelation therapy would change that. So Chris set about developing his songwriting and singing skills to complement his guitar playing, and bounced around various bands in the process.
Anyway, I digress... soon after moving into the area, John took work as a graphics teacher and met an interesting couple who were interested in having a large shed built on their land. With the help of the landlord and a plan which had been roughly scribbled on the back of an envelope, a long structure was built that would become his studio and home.
A good friend of John's, a Scottish rock star called Ray Dalrymple introduced two of his latest band mates, Chris Fox and Jon Bennett (Jon was currently back on hols from uni).
At Rays request, John recorded one of the bands songs, the un-rememberable Betty and the four guys stayed in touch. Jon returned to Uni and Ray and Chris formed Base Red with the help of a young lad called Jimmy on bass whom John introduced.
During the next year Ray also introduced John to a local drummer named Woody Woodmansey who needed some studio time for a project he was working on, the two hit it off and began working together.
A year later Base Red went its separate ways & Chris decided to join another group of players as rhythm guitarist.
John was not finding what he was looking for in the tracks he was creating, and the band he was working with seemed doomed to implosion, Chris was feeling creatively stifled by playing rhythm in someone elses band, so the two met on an overcast november day looking to each other for musical inspiration.
They quickly realised that their common ground was actually quite a vast landscape and so the Fox/Mackinnon writing partnership was formed.
Over the next year various tracks were written and recorded, some kept, some scrapped but vital for the pair's development as writers and producers.
What started out life as an idea to do a 5 track EP rapidly became the album "Upsetting Beauty"
Once the songs were written and pre-production was complete John enlisted the services of Woody to lay down real drums over the tracks. Things went so well that John, Chris and Woody decided to band together and form the embryonic Sueshe.
Over the next year the guitars and bass were cut, Sueshe will be forever grateful to Fender Europe for their help on this.
Through 2003 it was decided that work on the album was to be put on hold for a while John and Chris went on holiday to Canada . The pair were wowed by the immense beauty of the country and returned inspired and ready to tackle the remaining takes. During the next six months the lead vocals were nailed along with the remaining guitar takes and backing vocals.
John set about the editing, mixing and re-writing in mid 2004 which took them through to early 2005. Once the mixes were done, the bands good friend Martin Smith hooked them up with the mighty Ian Cooper at Metropolis who mastered the album.
Which brings us to today...
